Hey everyone!  Today’s post will be my May Birchbox unboxing!  This is my first Birchbox ever because I just signed up a few weeks ago.  I really love these subscription services because it’s so fun to try new brands and different types of products without the risk of spending a ton of money.  If you aren’t familiar with Birchbox, it is a $10/month beauty subscription service.  Each month they send you 5, usually trial sized, beauty products to try out.  If you are familiar with Ipsy, it’s very similar (also, if you haven’t read my May Ipsy unboxing, check it out!).  Although  with Birchbox, you are able to get some products that are not necessarily beauty related if you choose, unlike Ipsy.  Another thing that Birchbox does that Ipsy does not is they give you a card with the products with descriptions listed on it, as well as prices of the full size products.  I really like this because it gives you more information about the products and also gives you an idea of the money you are saving by being able to test the products out, as opposed to just buying them and hoping they are good.  One downfall with Birchbox is that you do get a more tailored questionnaire of what you like with Ipsy, so that your bag has more products that you personally enjoy in it.

The first product I got in my box was the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo.  It was the thing that caught my eye first because it is so cute and colorful.  I was excited to get dry shampoo because my hair is super oily and I’m always on the hunt for a good one.  I didn’t use it in my hair yet, but I did spray it in the air to see what it smelled like, because I’m kind of fussy with scents.  It does smell good, very floral, but I wonder if it might be too strong of a scent when actually using it.  I find that sometimes when dry shampoos have super strong scents, I just end up feeling like a big walking cloud of dry shampoo all day because it just overpowers everything.

The next thing I got was the Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion.  This self tanner is clear and then it develops over 48 hours after applying.  It is also unscented.  I was kind of ‘meh’ about this product because I literally know nothing about self tanning.  The thought of trying it out really scares me because I am like 97% sure I would mess it up.  Also, being tan has never been that much of a priority/interest to me, for no particular reason.  I think I have just accepted my eternal pasty-ness.

The next product I received was the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel for Body.  This is an acid free peel that is supposed to exfoliate your skin to make it softer and smoother.  I may be out of touch, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a peel that wasn’t for your face-which they tell you this is not for.  They say to apply it to damp skin from the shower and keep rubbing in it until it balls up and peels off, which takes about 3 minutes, and then rinse.  The thing that intrigued me about this product is that on the package it says it is good for skin problems such as keratosis pilaris (amongst other things), which I have a bit on my upper arms and thighs.  So, I’m interested to see if this does anything.

Next, I got the Cargo Blush and Bronzer Duo.  And let me just say before anything else, that trying to open this tiny tin was so frustrating.  The bottom part of the tin was way too thin to even get a grip on to pull the top off.  Like, why??!?!?  I eventually pried it off with a butter knife.  Also, I hate trial sized duo products like this because it’s so hard to get your brush into the product without getting the other product as well.  But anyway, I have been wanting to try Cargo brand for a while so I was happy to get something from them.  I think the bronzer is way too dark/warm for me, and it is also really shimmery which I’m not a huge fan of.  But, I think it would actually make a nice eyeshadow.  The blush is a nice bright pink color.

The last thing I got in my box was the MDSolarSciences Mineral Moisture Defense SPF 50 for Body.  I really like how it is an actual significant SPF of 50, because I feel like anything less just makes me burn still-and I burn super easy.  It feels nice and lightweight, absorbs into the skin quickly, and doesn’t make you feel greasy like a lot of sunscreens.  It smells like your average sunscreen.
